Akrotiri

Description

The village of Akrotiri, which is on the southern part of Santorini, offers visitors three of the most popular attractions of the island. The archaeological excavations, the Red Beach and the Lighthouse.

Archaeological site: A visitor of the site may admire the remains of the prehistoric settlement, which was buried under the volcanic mud in the 17th century BC. You may roam around the site by yourselves or book a guided tour so as to learn more about the history of the place.

Red Beach: A site of unique beauty, the Red Beach is popular mainly due to its colour, which resembles the colour of the volcanic mud. Despite the site being closed to the public as there is danger of falling rocks, you could reach it up to a point to admire the breathtaking view from above.

Lighthouse: One of the most picturesque lighthouses of the Cyclades is situated in the extreme end of the island. Although the building itself cannot be visited by people, the surrounding area will take your breath away while admiring the sunset from a different viewpoint.
