Santorini Wine Tasting

10 meters under the blooming garden of Pelican Kipos wine-Restaurant ,we enter the 400-years old cave to discover a cellar with more than 600 different labels of wines from Santorini –Greece and from all around the world .

There ,we will be seated on the old –style monasterial  table and our Wine Tasting Connoisseur will introduce you, the grape varieties, explain the unique characteristics of Santorini’s terroirs well as the wine-making methods, the traditional type of pruning  and the history of viticulture on the island.

The first wine is the  Aidani, an ancient Greek variety, that produces pleasantly aromatic wines with medium body and refreshing acidity.

The second wine is the unique Assyrtiko,with the high acidity and distinctive minerality.

Its origin comes from Santorini island where it has its greatest expression of character, due in large part to the influence of the island’s volcanic soil.

We continue ,with” Nychteri”an Assyrtiko 100%  from over ripped grapes ,aged in oak barrel from six months till two and a half years . It is a full- bodied wine with aromas of ripe citrus, honey, nuts and herbs.

Our next wine is a red blend from two indigenous varieties :Mandilaria and Mavrotragano.  These are some of the oldest grape varieties in the world that produces wines with deep dark red colour with aromas of spices,red fruits and pronounced  tannins.

For the end , you will taste the famous naturally sweet dessert wine , Vinsanto, made from sun -dried grapes. The grapes are sun-dried for 10-12 days given a concentrated, sweet  golden wine with intense flavors of raisins ,figs, nuts,dry apricots and honey.
