Akrotiri - Lighthouse








The lighthhouse of Akrotiri is one of the most beautiful spots in Santorini and offers spectacular panoramic view to the Caldera and the sunset.

The lighthouse of Akrotiri is located 18 Km south west to Fira and the coordinates are 36° 21′ 05″N, 25° 21′ 05″E.

It has been built in 1892, during the Turks domination, by the French Lighthouses construction company La Société Collas et Michel. Initially lit by oil, its range was 23 sea miles. The operations stopped during the Second World War and re-opened in 1945. At that time, the range was 25 sea miles and emitted a light every 30 seconds. The staff of the lighthouse was 4 men. In 1983, it was electrified and in 1988 full automation technology was used for its operation.

It is one of the most beautiful spots in Santorini and offers spectacular panoramic view to the Caldera and the sunset.
