Traditional settlements, very old Byzantine churches, Santorinian mansions and numerous chapels make your journey with the bus unforgettable .Keep the best for the end... the sunset in Oia! It's not only the sun setting in the sea and painting the Caldera with red colours, it's also about the little houses getting red every day at this time...
InformationOur first visit will be at the oldest church on the island Panagia Episkopi built during the rule of Byzantine Emperor Alexios Komninos in 11th century A.D. It is considered to be the oldest Byzantine church of the island. Next we visit Mesa Gonia- the “ghost” village; that village had been totally destroyed by the Great Earthquake in 1956 and just now the local council runs a program of reconstruction. Next destination is Pyrgos, a traditional village with typical Cycladic architecture, narrow alleys, Byzantine churches and a Venetian castle. On our way to Oia, we stop at the idyllic village Imerovigli to enjoy the most wonderful view of the caldera. There we also find Skaros, a grand rock, the remnant of the most important castle of Santorini. This castle has been the capital of the island for many centuries. It has also been destroyed by the Minoan volcano eruption in 1650 B.C., but one can still admire the remainings of it. Our last stop is the breathtaking Oia village to see the sunset. Oia is famous for being the place of gathering artists, who are inspired by the beauty of the landscape and the magnificent purple sunsets. 15 minutes after the sunset, we will meet in the square of the village for our way back.
