The eruption of Santorini left the island with a very moist soil, perfect for producing good grapes for wine. There are several indigenous grapes to the island and there are many local wines. So, we have designed a special interest tour for those who want to explore the secrets of Santorini wine and meet some of the most important producers of the island. The tour is full private for 2 persons or groups!

The tour starts from the point you will select (from your hotel or any other point) and we head towards the Koutsogiannopoulos Wine Museum, which is located in the road to Kamari beach, very close to Messaria village. We continue our tour driving south to Boutari Winery in Megalochori. We see the winery’s facilities and then have a wine tasting. Boutari’s oenologists have excellent knowledge of wine and its role in the society nowadays. In the same village, we visit Gavalas Vineyard, which is the smallest winery of our tour, but probably one of the most authentic in Santorini. Gavalas family has been engaged in wine making since the end of 19th century.

At the end, we have our lunch at Pelican cafe – wine restaurant, in Fira, right in the centre of the town. The menu consists of Greek or Santorini salad, tomatokeftedes (fried tomato balls), fava beans (pea puree) as starters. For main dish, you can choose either a Santorinian recipe or a plate from the Greek cuisine. And, of course, wine! A white dry whine from the local vineyards will very well accompany your food.
Also, we visit the wine cellar, located 9 meters under the earth inside an old carved cave. Here, you can find a large variety of local, other Greek and international wine labels and you can buy the ones you like.

The duration of the tour is 5 hours and the price for a couple is 240 Euros (transfers, entrances to the wine museum and the wineries and lunch are included). There are also many offers for 3+ persons or groups.

Book one of the most interesting Santorini tours. Santorini wine lovers you will definitely enjoy it!

Hello!

We are ready to give the second part of tips about tours in Santorini. At both posts we have focalized on most important tips you need to know in order to join one of the most popular tours in Santorini we offer. If you read both of them you will see that are some quick tips in order to have the best time and overtake some small details or facts in Santorini Volcano Islands etc.

So let’s see some more tips regarding the volcano: It takes approximately 20-30 minutes to reach the main crater. In many points of the path, you will observe fumes coming out of the surface. This is an active volcano and the last eruption took place in 1950 AD. It actually consists of 2 islands, the bigger called Nea Kameni and the smaller Palea Kameni. You will be hiking on Nea Kameni. Entrance in the volcano is not included in almost all the trips and costs €2 per person. There are 2 Hot Springs, one in Nea Kameni island and one in Palea Kameni island. If your boat stops in the Hot Springs of Palea Kameni, you will need to swim first in the cold, deep waters to reach the hot springs. Otherwise, most of the trips that stop in the Hot Springs of Nea Kameni, usually take you inside the actual hot springs, so you swim directly in the hot water.

Thirassia is a small island, once connected with Santorini. You can stay in Korfos, which is a picturesque fishermen port and enjoy your lunch in the tavernas or swim in the tiny beach. Alternatively, you can follow the steps to go on foot or by donkeys to the village Manolas; there you will explore the nice traditional settlement. You can even use your own vehicle (car or motorbike) to explore the island; to do this; you should join the Caldera round trip by ferry boat.

Joining a private land tour means that the itinerary can be adjusted to your needs; however, you’d better make a preliminary research regarding the spots you wish to visit, so that you will be prepared. We offer a large variety of private boats, catamarans, speed boats and more for your private excursions within or outside Santorini. You can ask us to suggest you the best private program according to your needs. We guarantee that you will definitely enjoy all of our tours!

Do you have experience on Santorini tours? Please share your feedback and your tips…

We know that many of you are looking for a tour while you will be in Santorini for your holidays. Here we will mention some very useful tips to have in mind for the tours you will choose to join. Be prepared and have one of the most enjoyable tours of your life…

About the port as a meeting point for the boat tours: Santorini has 2 main ports, Athinios and the Old Port. Athinios is accessible by vehicles and, if you join a trip with transfer, this will probably be the port you will depart from. Old Port is the old traditional port of Santorini and is located just at the bottom of Fira hill. It is only accessible by steps or cable car. Going down on foot takes approx. 20 minutes; you can also ride a donkey (€5 per person) or take the cable car (€4 per person). The Fira cable car station is located 500 meters from the central square of Fira. Be Aware of possible long queues to the cable car station. Also some private or semi-private cruises start from Vlihada Marina, which is located on the south part of Santorini. Accessible only by car or taxi, it takes 15 minutes to get there from Fira.

In mysantorini.com you will find some boat tours starting from Oia. There are two ports, Ammoudi and Armeni. Armeni is only accessible by steps, so you will need to reach the village on foot or by taking a donkey ride. Ammoudi can be reached both by car and steps. Many trips end at those ports and less start from there.

Also remind to bring with you or wear comfortable shoes and, if your trip includes hiking on the volcano, sneakers will always be a good choice. A bottle of water and a hat will be your good friends, especially during the summer months. If you are to join a sunset tour, bring a jacket or sweater; sometimes during the sunset time, the weather gets chilly. Finally it’s good to have memory on your camera or batteries because the scene is majestic and you will definitely take many pictures..!

To be continued…

Santorini, like all the Cyclades, offers a diverse and delicious cuisine.

Santorini’s cuisine is primarily based on the island’s own agricultural products. These locally grown products nourished by the volcanic soil, the sea breeze and the sunshine of the Aegean Sea, share a unique, full taste. Combined with the almost exclusively organic cultivation of the island the result is top quality produce from ingredients used to cook the original, tasty and healthy foods you will find in most of the island’s taverns and restaurants.

Sweet cherry tomatoes, beans, barley, white eggplants, zucchini, capers (whose leaves are also added to salads) and mint are all typical products served with lamb or rabbit – not to mention the essential moussaka (eggplant gratin), fava (bean purée) and pseftokeftedes (meatballs with vegetables and spices).

You should also try the fresh grilled fish or octopus salad. Everywhere tavernas and other typical bars offer Greek salad and souvlaki (meat kabobs). Cafés serve gyros (spit-roasted meat) served in pitas with salad and tzatziki, a garlicky yogurt sauce.
Meletenia is Santorini’s best-known dessert. It is a flaky pastry filled with cheese and egg, covered with mastiha, a kind of sweet resin. Also “ Koufeto”, which is prepared with almonds which are boiled in local honey or syrup. Koufeto is a traditional sweet which is served at weddings.

The most popular and romantic tours in Santorini are definitely the Sunset tours. Sunsets in Santorini are spectacular and watching the sunset is probably one of the most popular activities on the island. You can get a good view from a number of places on the island but having a tour during sunset is an amazing experience.
Most tours start after 15:00 and there are many different type of vessels that can organize these tours.

Your first choice is a traditional wooden boat (the bigger in Santorini) where you can have dinner as well. The name of the boat is Afrodite and the tour starts from both ports of Santorini (old port Fira and Athinios port). The boat travels towards the volcano and sails very close to the little bays. Formations of lava and rocks are constantly changing and in a while we can see the older rocks of the nearby island, Palea Kameni. You will also have a 45 – minutes stop for swimming at the volcano’s hot springs. Later on, the captain of Afrodite will choose the most quiet bay of the Caldera to enjoy your dinner. Varieties of meat, refreshing salads and pasta, local cheese and fruits are our chef’s suggestions. With the sails open, we sail to Oia and the sunset is now in front of you and you will enjoy it with a glass of Santorinian wine. This tour costs 45 Euros per person.

Another option for sunset tour in Santorini is to join a Catamaran semi private or private sunset tour. This tour starts from the port of Ammoudi in Oia, we are heading towards the private bay of Thirassia island for the first stop of swimming and snorkelling. Diving equipment is provided to all the guests of the catamaran. Next the Catamaran sails past the Volcano to admire the small bays and the rock formations. At the Hot Springs of Palea Kameni, you will stop for one a healing swimming at the sulphurous waters. Moving towards the coasts of Oia, the chef prepares dinner on board with recipes from the local cuisine, options for vegetarians and tailor made menus to your own special requirements. You will be served also on board Greek salad, shrimps, mussels, souvlaki pork or chicken. Local white wine, ouzo, soft drinks and coffees are also included in the price. The engines are now switched-off to experience the world-famous sunset while enjoying an excellent dinner. This tour costs on semi private basis 130 Euros per person.

At mysantorini.com you can find both tours out for bookings and enjoy your summer holidays in Santorini with an excellent and remarkable tour to the caldera of Santorini during the Sunset hours. Returning to the port you see the lights of Thira or Oia glowing as the evening darkens, the perfect ending to a wonderful day in Santorini…

If you haven’t been before in Santorini or you don’t know what is “must see” on the island then you will have some problems finding the best tour for you and your company. At mysantorini.com we provide all kind of tours for individuals, groups, thematic tours, bus and boat tours, private tours and more. Some of the best things to do or visit by boat is the Volcano, Hot Springs, Thirassia island, see the sunset on board, go across some Santorini beaches etc. If you prefer a bus – land tour then you could go in Perissa or Kamari beach, Prophet Elias monastery, Lighthouse in Akrotiri, wineries, Imerovigli, Oia and more… Here we will post some short descriptions and tips for those who will decide to join us at the above tours. All Santorini tours are listed here.

Volcano, Hot Springs and Thirassia (aka Caldera round trip): There are several different boats that offer various trips out of Fira’s old harbor in order to visit the volcano, swim at the Hot Springs and Thirassia (you can choose between traditional wooden boats and a small ferry). This is a very popular tour for those that can spend 6 hours to visit these small volcanic islands or you can take the 3 hour tour for just the Volcano and the Hot Springs. The volcano island has a great lava rock coastline and a clear path to the rim. There are small rocks, and it’s a healthy grade so it is highly suggested wearing sneakers or close-type shoes, a hat and sunglasses. Also have in mind that you will be charged a euro to hike to the top at the port of the Volcano island. There are little wisps of steam escaping at the summit, and the view is really spectacular. Next you will stop to swim for about 50 minutes in the warm springs of Palea Kameni. The wooden boats stop just outside the springs and you will need to jump off the boat otherwise the ferry can dock and you will get off normally. Another major proof of the strong volcanic activity still today, Hot Springs have beneficial effects against rheumatisms, arthritis and other diseases. Next you will visit the island of Thirassia. You dock in the small port with several seafood restaurants for lunch. There is a larger village up top but there are some steps to reach it. Instead you can have lunch and then relax near the water. You can choose to end your tour in Fira or Oia. In Oia you will need to take the steps to the top of the village and come back to Fira with local bus transportation or taxi.

If you choose the Nissos Thirassia ferry boat for your tour have in mind that you can board your car or moto with you for free. This will be very useful for the island of Thirassia in order to visit the villages on the top of the hill. On the other hand you won’t be able to finish the tour in Oia with your vehicle on.

Book the caldera round trip from mysantorini.com for 18 Euros per person with the ferry and 25 Euros per person for the traditional wooden boats.

Do you have video, photos or audio of those tours? Do you have sounds or images of something really cool that you want to share? If so, please contact us and we will review your material and it could be posted to our social media sectors (like youtube, Flickr, blog etc.). We love to hear from you…
