Information about Greek Ports names

Greek ports

In some islands the name of the port is different from the name of the island or there more than one ports in the same island.
So, in this post we will write down some very popular ports that you will see in Ferry tickets Booking Engines and the region that they belong.

The main ports of Athens are: Piraeus (South of Athens), Rafina (North, near airport) and Lavrio. The ports of Amorgos are Aigiali and Katapola. The ports of Crete are Heraclion (main port), Chania, Rethymno, Sitia (Lasithi), Agios Nikolaos and Kissamos (close to Chania).

The name of Santorini’s port is Athinios but you will find it as Thira. The old port of Fira is used only from the cruise ships. (more…)

No smoking on all ferries and fast boats by law as of July 1st

A new law has been passed in Greece prohibiting smoking on all closed spaces of common use as of July 1st 2009. As a result, smoking will not be allowed in any ship (ferry or hydrofoil) anywhere inside the boat. Smoking will be allowed on outside decks only.
