Sports and water sports
Santorini is the ultimate destination for entertainment and various sport activities. You will have the chance to practice a lot of water sports, diving, sailing, tennis, 5x5 football courts, cycling, riding and many other activities.
In the organized beaches of the island, like Perivolos and Kamari , there water sport centers that offer jet skiing, wake boarding, parasailing, canoeing-kayaking and diving. Also, in Perivolos and Monolithos there are beach volleyball fields and many competitions are taking place every year there. If you join a trip to the volcano, you can have a very nice trekking from the little harbour of Nea Kameni (island) to the top, where the active crater is located. It will take you approx. 30'. Don't forget your camera to take panoramic pictures of the caldera!
In general, Santorini has very short distances and, thus, is ideal for nice walks at the streets and the cobbled alleys. Classic routes are Fira-Firostefani-Imerovigli and Imerovigli-Oia; when you reach Imerovigli, ask for the church Profitis Ilias. It's located outside the village and from there starts the paved path ending in Oia parallel to the caldera...

Diving in Santorini is the latest upcoming trend attracting more and more fans every year. No previous experience or any certificate is required, as there diving centers offering courses for beginners. You can have a 2-hour scuba diving course and afterwards make your first dive in the caldera of Santorini. Lots of Mediterranean fish, octopus and volcanic rocks will be some of your first underwater experiences. This is one of the most popular diving programs and since you will complete your first course, you can have a second dive at 12 meters maximum depth. |
