It is housed in “Megaro Gyzi”, one of the few 17th century old family mansions with special architectural interest and beauty, in Fira Santorini (near the cable-car entrance). The Museum hosts six permanent exhibitions. Megaro Gyzi In particular, an exhibition of authentic engravings with maps, landscapes and dresses of the Cycladic islands from the 15th until the 19th century, an exhibition of old theraic public and private historical manuscripts from late 16th to early 19th century, a collection of art paintings with Santorini as theme by well-known Greek artists, a collection of old photographs of scenic Santorini from 1930 until 1956 and a collection of Santorini΄s strata.At the Shop of the Museum is exclusively available the latest edition of the Cultural Centre “Megaro Gyzi”, a bilingual publication entitled “Santorini through Engravings and Drawings by Greek Artists”. It includes 212 rare and significant engravings (woodcuts, etchings, lithographs) and drawings of 50 Greek artists, from 1866 to 2007, all with Santorini as theme, with exceptional texts of the Art Historian Nikos Grigorakis. The well-known painter and engraver Miltos Pantelias (1954) engraved, especially for “Megaro Gyzi”, a lithograph with Santorini as theme. It is the work entitled “Ia at Sunset”. This coloured lithograph, in only 99 authentic copies, numbered and signed by the artist, is offered exclusively at the Shop of the “Megaro Gyzi” Museum. The last years Megaro Gyzi hosts various cultural and music events during the summer period, such as painting exhibitions, concerts, music recitals, theatrical performances, photographic exhibitions, lectures and traditional dances, which attract the interest of the local residents and the numerous tourists of the island. For over 25 years, since 1981, the Cultural Centre "Megaro Gyzi" has been annually organising between the 1st and 31st of August a Festival of various cultural events including music concerts and painting exhibitions of well-known artists. All visitors, foreign and Greek, enjoy these events at no charge, since there is a free general admission policy.
